Are Court Records Public in Coos County?
Yes. Court records that are not confidential or sealed are available to the public under the Oregon Public Records Law. Court staff maintain these records and assist the public with requests for copies. They handle court record requests on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, court records relating to adoption and juveniles are not available for public disclosure.

Coos County Criminal Records
Coos County criminal records are confidential under Oregon law. Eligible individuals can retrieve copies of them by mail at the Oregon State Police’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division. To submit a request, mail an Application Form, complete fingerprints on a fingerprint card, and a $33.00 fee payable by check or money order to the office at:

Customers can get fingerprinted at the Salem office from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (PST), for $30. Alternatively, they can book an appointment with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 08:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Get Coos County Civil Court Records
The Coos County Circuit Court decides on all civil cases and records them online and onsite. Online civil court records can be viewed via the Online Records Search database. Follow the steps below to conduct a search using this portal:
- Click the Smart Search button
- Click the “Advanced Filtering Options” link
- Scroll to the “General Options” area, select “Coos” from the Filter by Location dropdown
- Scroll down to the “Case Search Criteria” and select “Search Civil, Family, and Probate Case Records” from the “Filter by Case Type” dropdown.
- Then, go to the “Filter by Search Type” dropdown and select smart search, attorney bar number, attorney name, business name, case cross-reference number, case number, judicial officer, nickname, or party name to conduct a search.
Online requests can also be made by submitting the Records Request Form. Individuals can visit the courthouse from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to request certified copies of civil court records. The courthouse has public access terminals that requesters can use to view or print out their desired records. Copies of civil court records cost 25 cents per page, and certified copies cost $5 plus a per-page copy charge.
Coos County Marriage Records
The Coos County Clerk handles all marriage certificate requests over the counter when customers visit the office to place an order. They charge a fee of $7.75 for a copy and an extra $4 each for multiple copies. All in-person applications should be made from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applicants can also mail a completed Certified Copy of Marriage License Order Form to the Clerk’s Office at:

Inquirers can view unofficial marriage information on the Search Marriage Licenses database. The search criteria are name, application number, issuing date, or marriage date. Click the search button after entering the appropriate search criteria.
Coos County Divorce Records
The Coos County Circuit Court has general jurisdiction over domestic relations, including divorce. The Online Records Search portal provides free electronic access to limited divorce information maintained by the court. Users can find the appropriate records by name or number. They can select the correct location and family case type to narrow the search.
Copies of divorce records can be obtained online or in person during business hours. Interested persons can submit a Records Request Form online for a fee. Plain copies cost 25 cents per page, while certified copies cost $5.00 plus a per-page copy charge. Those who prefer to visit the office can use the courthouse public terminals or submit a request at the counter.
Coos County Birth and Death Records
Birth records only become included in Coos County public records after 100 years, while death records are public after 50 years after the event. These confidential birth or death records are only available to a selected few, like the subject of the record (for Coos County birth certificates), immediate family members, legal guardians, government agencies, and funeral service practitioners.
The Coos County Health Department disseminates certificates of births and deaths that occurred within the last six months. Individuals can submit their requests by visiting the office from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The record staff will ask them to complete a written request, provide a valid I.D., and pay a fee of $25 per certified copy. Fees can be paid by credit/debit card, check, cash, or money order. Certified copies of Coos County birth and death certificates can be obtained from Oregon State Vital Records six(6) months after the event. The fees for this service cost $25, payable by credit or debit card, check, money order, or cash. Record seekers can submit their requests online, by phone, by mail, via Dropbox, or in person.
An approved third-party vendor processes online and phone orders for an additional fee totaling about $43.25 to $44.95 (including the standard fee). The processing time takes three (3) working days. Requesters submitting birth requests by mail or dropoff can send any of the forms below, a copy of I.D., and the appropriate fees to the office:
- Death Order Form (English or Spanish)
- Birth Order Form (English or Spanish)
- Long Birth Order Form (English or Spanish)
The processing time for mail requests is between 5 and 7 weeks. In-person requests are handled by appointments that are 30 minutes in length and are available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the last one starting at 3:30 p.m. This service attracts an extra $3 for an identity authentication fee.
Coos County Probate Court Records
The Online Records Search portal provides free access to unofficial probate information. The information on this portal is limited and searchable by name or number. To streamline the search, users should click the “Advanced Filtering Options” link and select a location and “Probate” case type. Complete non-confidential probate cases can be assessed online through courthouse public terminals. Certified and uncertified copies of probate court records can be retrieved by submitting a Records Request Form online or over the counter at the courthouse. Copies of probate court records cost 25 cents per page, and certified copies cost $5.00 plus per page copy charge.
Coos County Property Records
Coos County records custodians, such as the County Clerk, Assessor, Surveyor, and Tax, provide public access to property information in person at their offices. Copies of records cost a small fee. For example, the Suveryor’s office charges $5 for sizes 11 x 17 and 18 x 24 maps and $10 for sizes 24 x 36 maps. The custodians also make property records available online to residents for free. Below are some of the online portals where individuals can view property information:
- Property Search Online: Users can locate a property tax account by providing an account I.D., tax account I.D., name, address, or map number in the search box.
- ArcGIS Aerial Photo Map: To find the appropriate records, enter an address or place in the search box at the top right corner of the map.
- Deed Search-Digital Research Room: Conduct a search by name, document number, or recording date. Users can click the “Advanced Search” button to find more search criteria that can help streamline the search.
- Plat Maps: Provides access to statewide tax parcel information. Enter the appropriate county in the search box and click the appropriate map file name.
- Survey Resource System: Individuals can look at surveys, plats, books, GCDB, and road atlas on this portal. They can email the Surveyor’s office at droyce@co.coos.or.us to request access to the portal.
